Carathéodory sends two articles from “La Gazette” discussing his polemic with cardinal Lavigerie. The author of the two articles, J. A. Wauters, mentions that it was a Dominican priest who suggested Emperor Charles V to replace the Native American slaves by African slaves. Wauters came to visit Carathéodory and they discussed a book that he is writing on the facts and fiction surrounding cardinal Lavigerie. Carathéodory also mentions that he received many endorsements for the Ottoman Empire in this case.
