Synopsis

Réponse. - Prétendre malade de S. M. I. le Sultan. - 1 annexe

Carathéodory writes that thanks to his intervention a readjustment was published in “L’Indépendance Belge”. Since the 14th of August no negative comments were published. The direction board of the newspaper apologized for the behaviour of their Parisian correspondent and pointed out that most foreign newspapers used more powerful language concerning the alleged illness of the Sultan. Moreover the editors were unable to read all of the articles due to the fast publication of their paper. Correspondents are fully responsible for what they write. Carathéodory was unable to get the name of the correspondent in Paris from the editors, but contacted the embassy in Paris to identify the writer of the article.
