Letters from the Imperial Legation in Brussels (1849–1914)

Aristarchi Bey informs Assim Pacha about an anonymous letter received by Baron d’Anethan, the Belgian agent to Washington, send from Brussels to the director of the Boston newspaper “L’Anarchiste”. An international organization for regicide, based in Brussels, asks in the letter for international support. Aid money is to be send to the office of a London newspaper called “Freiheit”. Baron d’Anethan has notified his government.

Monsieur le Ministre, Le Baron d’Anethan, chargé d’Affaires de Belgique, a reçu hier une lettre anonyme, envoyée de Bruxelles au Directeur
d’un journal, « l’Anarchiste », qui paraît à Boston. Il résulte de cette lettre, qu’il m’a été donné de lire, qu’une « société internationale secrète de régicides » aurait été établie, à Bruxelles, société en faveur de laquelle on sollicite le concours matériel et moral des extrêmistes [sic] de tous les pays. On indique, en outre,
les bureaux du « Freiheit » de Londres, comme étant destinés à recevoir les offrandes et les adhésions. M. d’Anethan en a informé son Gouvernement par télégraphe. Daignez agréer, Monsieur le Ministre, l’hommage de mon profond respect.
