Synopsis

Procès de la Princesse Louise contre l'Etat belge

Essad Bey reports that the Belgian Princess Louise, the eldest daughter of the late King Leopold II, instituted legal proceedings against the state, because her father partially disinherited his daughters to use the money to sponsor the German foundation of Niederfüllbach. Firstly, she wanted to annul her father’s donation to Niederfüllbach. Secondly, she wanted to recover the money the state confiscated from the inheritance. Essad Bey notes that twelve lawyers worked on this case, amongst whom Belgium’s most renowned lawyers. The foreign diplomats closely followed the legal proceedings, as they expected sensational revelations. Essad Bey attended one of the court sessions.
