Synopsis

Elections en Belgique.

Munir Bey informs Tevfik Pacha about the elections that were held in Belgium to renew half of the existing seats in the Belgian House of Representatives, to replace one deceased MP, and to elect MPs for the newly created seats. Consequently, 91 members of the House of Representatives had to be elected. In the Senate, seven seats were to be renewed. The elections – under universal suffrage with plural votes and proportional representation – went smoothly, without the expected unrest. The partisans of universal suffrage were defeated and the Catholic government consolidated its majority in both Chambers of the parliament.
