Synopsis

Mariage de la Princesse Josephine. - Une annexe

Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports that the marriage between the Belgian Princess Joséphine (daughter of the Count of Flanders, Prince Philippe) and Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern (King of Romania) took place on May 28th. Carathéodory notes that, in conformity with the law, the civil wedding took place before the religious ceremony. The civil marriage service was performed by Buls, the mayor of Brussels. The cardinal and archbishop of Malines / Mechelen gave the nuptial blessing and the dean of Saint Jacques (the parish of the royal family) performed the marriage service. The wedding was attended by the closest relatives of the couple. Carathéodory was invited by the minister of Romania in Brussels to meet Prince Karl Anton of Hohenzollern, who expressed his sympathy for the Sultan and conveyed his sincere wishes for the Sultan’s glory. Carathéodory notes that he and his other foreign colleagues conveyed their congratulations for the wedding. (In attachment is a newspaper clipping containing the details of the wedding ceremony.)
