Synopsis

Constitution du Ministère Beernaert. - les nouveaux ministres.

Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports about the new Catholic government, with Auguste Beernaert as Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. Beernaert was one of the four ministers who remained in the government. Chevalier de Moreau traded his portfolio of Foreign Affairs for Agriculture, Industry and Public Works, whereas Vandenpeereboom kept his portfolio of Railways, Post Services and Telegraph Services, and General Pontus remained Minister of War. The three new ministers, who replaced Malou, Woeste and Jacobs, were: Thonissen as Minister of the Interior and Public Education, Devolder as Minister of Justice, and prince Joseph de Caraman as Minister for Foreign Affairs. On the latter, Carathéodory provides some bibliographical information, calling him intelligent, sympathetic and moderate. He considered the prince de Caraman to be an excellent choice.
