Synopsis

Inauguration du Palais de justice de Bruxelles.

In his report, Etienne Carathéodory Effendi writes about the inauguration of the Law Courts of Brussels on October 15th. He mentions the people present, who had to add lustre to the event: King Leopold II, Queen Marie-Henriette, the diplomatic corps, high civil and military officials, deputations from every Belgian province, and members of the bar from different European capital cities. After the inauguration and the solemn session of the Court of cassation, the King received the invitees at his palace. Carathéodory describes the new building as one of the biggest and most remarkable buildings of Europe, for it was as luxurious as can be. The Belgian people had to pay a high price for its construction, that was not finished yet.
