Synopsis

Articles du "National belge". - 5 annexes

Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports that Belgium’s internal affairs showed signs of appeasement. He hopes that the new parliamentary year would start out more peacefully than the previous one. In a country where almost everyone supported the monarchy, a handful of republicans – Carathéodory called them socialists and communalists – continued their revolutionary propaganda. The Belgian government deported some French who contributed to the editing of the newspaper le National belge. This newspaper, however, continued its campaign against the King in violent and indecent terms. To show Assim Pacha how improper the language use of this newspaper was, Carathéodory includes some articles. From an official source, Carathéodory heard that the government would continue to press charges against the newspaper. (The enclosed newspaper clippings are not photographed.)
