Synopsis

Fêtes jubilaires du tir national.

Etienne Carathéodory Effendi informs Aarifi Pacha about the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the Belgian Tir national (the National shooting range). The neighbouring countries were invited to join in the celebrations. Great-Britain, the Netherlands, France and Germany sent deputations of volunteers, national guards and riflemen, all in uniform. The presence of the British riflemen seemed to have been very special. Carathéodory remarks that the presence of all these uniforms, mixed amongst the Belgian uniforms, gave a touch of international confraternity to the festivities. He notes that this testified to the sympathies of the three large European countries towards Belgium and its government, whereas the large number of Dutch delegates signified that every trace of hostility between both countries had disappeared.
