Nouveaux impots belges.
Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports about five levels on which the Belgian government planned to levy new taxes. Minister of Finance, Charles Graux, estimated that these taxes would create an extra 22.300.000 francs. This amount would more or less cover the state’s deficit. Carathéodory remarks that this news already left a bad impression on the Belgian population and led to demonstrations. This leads him to believe that the government would probably have to moderate its plans. (The first page of the report is only partly legible.)
