Synopsis

Anniversaire de Léopold Ier.

Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports about the celebrations on July 21st, in honour of the anniversary of the oath of King Leopold I, officially making him King of the Belgians. As it was the fiftieth anniversary, the celebrations were more solemn than the previous years. Carathéodory summarizes those who were present at the Te Deum: King Leopold II, Queen Marie-Henriette, the Count and Countess of Flanders – Prince Philippe of Belgium (brother of Leopold II) and his wife Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen – their civil and military households, the diplomatic corps, the government, some MPs, and some civil and military authorities. Carathéodory does not give any further descriptions of the festivities.
