Fête du Roi.

On the occasion of the name day of King Leopold II, the Belgian Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Frère-Orban, held a big diplomatic dinner on November 15th, attended by all the mission heads, the government, the Speaker of the Belgian House of Representatives, the Speaker of the Senate, and several administrative, judicial and parliamentary men of importance. The dean of the diplomatic corps, the English minister Sir Savile Sumley, proposed a toast to King Leopold II, to which Frère-Orban replied by proposing a toast to the leaders of Belgium’s befriended and allied countries. After the dinner, a reception was held by Mrs. Frère-Orban at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his report, Etienne Carathéodory Effendi notes that he conveyed the felicitations of the Sultan and the Ottoman government, as well as their wishes for the good fortune of the King.
