Synopsis

Banquet offert aux municipalités étrangères. - une annexe.

In the light of the festivities in honour of the fiftieth anniversary of Belgium’s independence, the communal authorities of Brussels wanted to celebrate their colleagues of the European capitals. Thus, on the 18th of August, a banquet was held at the town hall. (In attachment is the summary of the banquet and the speeches that were pronounced on this occasion.) Because the invitations were sent too late, not all invitees were present. Vanderstraeten, the mayor of Brussels himself explained the situation to Etienne Carathéodory Effendi, and asked him if he was allowed to send an invitation to the municipal authorities of Istanbul or if Carathéodory wished to send the invitation himself. Carathéodory thanked the mayor on behalf of the Ottoman government and the communal authorities of Istanbul, who would certainly be delighted to celebrate the anniversary with their colleagues, and promised the mayor that he would notify those concerned.
