Fêtes jubilaires. - 4 annexes
On August 29th the festivities in honour of the fiftieth anniversary of the Belgian independence would end with a historical procession and fireworks. Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports that the magnificent ceremonies had taken place in splendid weather. The expositions testified to Belgium’s industrial and artistic progress in those fifty years of its existence. Carathéodory praises Belgium’s position in different fields, where it measured up to the great powers. The King’s speech testified to Belgium’s gratitude towards the powers to which Belgium owes its independence and towards the friendly countries. (The enclosed speech of Leopold II is not photographed.) Carathéodory called the speech remarkable because of its sincerity and elegance. He does not wish to elaborate on the details of the different festivities, as Abédine Pacha would be able to read about those in newspaper clippings from l’Indépendance belge. (The enclosed newspaper clippings are not photographed.) Carathéodory adds that the Belgian government appreciated the illuminations and decorations of the Ottoman legation. Furthermore, the Ottoman legation received a special and flattering mention in the Belgian newspapers. (In attachment is the newspaper clipping containing the special mention of the illuminations of the Ottoman legation.)
