Audience chez le Comte de Flandre
Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports about his audience with the Count and Countess of Flanders: Prince Philippe of Belgium (brother of Leopold II) and his wife Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Carathéodory notes that they were very amiable and gave him and his wife a warm welcome. He saw the opportunity to convey the Sultan’s friendly and sympathetic sentiments towards them. The Count and Countess of Flanders expressed their great and sincere gratitude.
