Synopsis

Audience chez la Reine

Etienne Carathéodory Effendi reports about his audience with the Belgian Queen Marie-Henriette, a couple of days after his audience with King Leopold II at the palace in Brussels. There, Carathéodory conveyed the Sultan’s wishes for good luck and prosperity for the entire royal family, and especially for good fortune and health for the Queen. Marie-Henriette seemed touched and wanted to convey her sincere gratitude and sympathy to the Sultan and his family, whom she wished good fortune. In the remainder of his report, Carathéodory describes the etiquette of his welcome to the palace by the Lord Chamberlain who introduced him and his wife to the Queen. She received them very gracefully and courteously. It was this amiability that made her loved by the Belgian people.
