Echec du Ministère belge devant la Chambre
The Belgian House of Representatives rejected the Terneuzen Convention. This rejection was a failure for the Malou government, which believed in support of a majority. At the convention, it became clear that the Dutch wanted to extend the Canal from Ghent to the Dutch port of Terneuzen. Ghent was in favour, but Antwerp opposed. Etienne Carathéodory Effendi explains the importance of the next elections in Antwerp: if the liberals won, the Catholic government would have to retire. (This is what Prime Minister Malou told Carathéodory.)
