Synopsis

Voyage de la Famille Royale de Belgique

Etienne Carathéodory Effendi informs Rachid Pacha about the trip of the Belgian royal family to Germany. In Wiesbaden, King Leopold II had a talk with the German Emperor Willem. He also went to Baden-Baden and Carlsruhe, where he visited the Grand Ducal family. Queen Marie Henriette would join her husband there, after having visited her daughter Princess Louise in Hungary. The King and Queen were expected to return to Belgium May 17th. Shortly after, the German Empress (Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach) would visit Belgium. The Count and Countess of Flanders – Prince Philippe of Belgium (brother of Leopold II) and his wife Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen – also went to Wiesbaden to greet Emperor William and the Prince and Princess of Hohenzollern (who were family). Even though the press attributed a political goal to this royal visit to the German Emperor, Carathéodory assures that it was only a courteous family visit.
