Elections communales en Belgique
Etienne Carathéodory Effendi informs Safvet Pacha about the Belgian communal elections. He notes that this might affect the majority of the Catholic Malou government in the next elections. However, ‘competent men’ believe it would be difficult to overthrow the existing government. The liberals won in Antwerp, that was one of Belgium’s ‘boulevards of Catholicism’ until then. Yet their success was largely compensated by the victories of the conservatives (the Catholics) in several important cities.
