Synopsis

Composition du nouveau Ministère à Bruxelles

The Belgian liberal government resigned June 17th and was replaced by the new Catholic government July 2nd. First, Glavany writes a biographical note on the new Prime Minister, Baron d’Anethan, who was also the new Minister for Foreign Affairs. As a Senator he used to fight obstinately against all the political measurements proposed by the previous government. He considered himself the antipode of liberal MP Bara. Glavany also gives biographical information about the new Minister of Public Works, Victor Jacobs, and about the new Minister of the Interior, Baron Kervyn de Lettenhove. He foresees that both would contribute to army reforms. Glavany also informs Aali Pacha about the new Minister of War, Henri Guillaume, the new Minister of Finance, Pierre Tack and the new Minister of Justice, Prosper Cornesse. In his report, Glavany expresses his surprise of the lack of progressive elements, whereas they contributed to the triumph of the Catholic Party. However, the Catholics claimed that the formation of the new government was based on two ideas: a liberal idea and the principle of union that made Belgium free and independent.
