Synopsis

Abolition des octrois en Belgique

Diran Bey notes that the Belgian Senate has voted for the abolition of taxes on basic consumption goods. Apparently, the debates had been attended by citizens, who cheered ‘Long live the King’. Diran Bey adds that this achievement should be attributed to the Belgian Minister of Finance, Frère-Orban. Again, he underlines Frère-Orban’s remarkable talent. The voting of the new law leads Diran Bey to the conclusion that Belgium had taken another step in the domain of liberty, and that Belgium can be seen as a model of progress for the rest of the world.
