Synopsis

Célébration de l'Inauguration de la Fête du 29e Anniversaire de S.M. Le Roi des Belges le 21 Juillet 1860

Diran Bey reports about the 29th anniversary of the inauguration of King Leopold and the ceremony that took place that day (21 July 1860). He describes the ceremony, with a parade of the military and the National Guard, as a spectacle of an unparalleled impressiveness. Furthermore, he observed a lot of enthusiasm amongst the soldiers as well as amongst the large crowd. This enthusiasm is interpreted by Diran Bey as an expression of affection for the King and love for their country. From the enthusiasm of the cheering crowd, Diran Bey concludes that all efforts from other countries to take over Belgium would be in vain, because of the population’s patriotism. He speaks of an unseen impressive pilgrimage towards the altars of liberty.
